MotoGP World Championship- Aragon Grand Prix25.09.2017

Master Morbidelli

After crashing in Misano, Franco Morbidelli made amends on the Motorland circuit in Aragon by confidently defeating Mattia Pasini. The leader of the Moto2 championship seized the opportunity to consolidate his lead before the overseas tour in October.

The Races

Morbidelli was not discouraged by having to settle for a place on the second row of the starting grid. For a long time alone, the rider of the team Estrella Galicia 0.0 Marc VDS finished the race neck to neck with Mattia Pasini. “I had two options,” he explained: “to content myself with the podium and think of the championship or go all out to win. I preferred to fight.” He made the right decision, because he scored his eighth win of the season. Still handicapped by his hip injury since his fall at Misano, Alex Marquez retired after a few laps when he was in third place. “My leg was completely numb,” said the Spaniard. In MotoGP, Jack Miller and Tito Rabat both finished scoring points. The first ranked fifteenth, the second thirteenth. “I was aiming for the top ten but we had trouble using the hard tire we chose,” said Miller. In the Moto3 category, Kornfeil and Pulkkinen ranked twenty-fifth and twenty-ninth.

The Championship

Tom Lüthi not having made it to the podium in Aragon, Morbidelli took advantage of his victory to give himself a breath of fresh air again at the top of the Moto2 overall classification. The Italian now has a twenty-one point lead over his Swiss opponent and forthcoming teammate. Alex Marquez has slipped into fourth place, two points away from Miguel Oliveira. In MotoGP, Jack Miller has come back to twelfth place. Tito Rabat also won a place, and is now nineteenth with twenty-eight points. No change in Moto3, Kornfeil retains his twenty-second place.

The Background

While the Elf brand has a special relationship with the Kawasaki plant, there is an equally strong relationship between Total and Peugeot.

« Total and PSA have been working closely together for more than twenty years. And for much longer if you include the Citroën brand.»

Jean-François Thouin,
The PSA relations manager

That’s why this year again, the Peugeot MC Saxoprint team entered the Moto3 championship flying the flag of the French oil company.

“Having arrived at a period when our contracts were to be renewed, it was logical that we also looked at the two-wheeler sector»,
said Jean-François.

Especially since many car dealers market Peugeot scooters, especially in Europe, Vietnam and North Africa, and the brand is now linked to Mahindra, the Indian car manufacturing major. A partnership that Total engineers see as a tremendous opportunity.

«There is technical cooperation with the supply of lubricants for first-fill products and the endorsement that goes with them,” explained Thouin. “As for motorsports, our presence in the Moto3 championship has a dual interest. The first is that we can demonstrate the quality of our products. The second is to set up operations with our customers in order to build a closer relationship than the one we can create during working hours.»

Developing new products, promoting the brand around the world and maintaining strong ties with its customers and partners are all perfect reasons for the presence and investments of the Elf and Total brands in motorcycle racing.
