Marquez Marks

As in Jerez, Alex Marquez rode in scintillating form in Barcelona to clinch his second Moto2 victory. In so doing, the Spaniard has reduced the lead held by Franco Morbidelli who keeps first place in the overall standings

The Races

After taking pole position, Marquez built his success by escaping the pack to snatch the lead right from the start of the race. With a three-second lead after five laps, the Spaniard then focused on keeping his rivals at bay to gain a new victory in front of his supporters, and to offer the Marc VDS Racing team a historic victory in Barcelona as they celebrated their 250th start in the Grand Prix intermediate class. In trouble on a slippery track, Morbidelli was unable to compete with his team-mate, or even with Lüthi and Pasini, who were ahead of him at the finish. The Italian had to settle for fourth place. In MotoGP, Miller fell while a new top ten seemed within his reach. Tito Rabat managed to clinch a point with his fifteenth place after a rather cautious start to the race. In Moto3, Kornfeil and Pulkkinen ranked twenty-second and twenty-seventh.

The Championship

Although he managed to keep his first place in the Moto2 championship, Morbidelli now is only seven points ahead of Thomas Lüthi. In third place, Marquez is thirteen points behind the Swiss rider. In the MotoGP category, Miller is now thirteenth and Rabat seventeenth. Kornfeil keeps his twenty-fourth place in Moto3.

The Background

This year, the Peugeot MC Saxoprint team entered the Moto3 competition flying the flag for the Total brand. A partnership that seems obvious for Jean-François Thouin:

Total and PSA have been working together for more than twenty years,” summarizes the PSA relations manager. “And for even longer if you include the Citroën brand. Now that we are starting to renew our contracts, it was logical that we were also interested in the two-wheel industry.

Especially since many car dealers also sell Peugeot scooters, especially in Europe, Vietnam and North Africa, plus the fact that the company today has links with Mahindra, the Indian giant – a partnership that Total engineers see as a tremendous opportunity.

There is technical cooperation with the supply of lubricants for first-fill products and the endorsement that goes with them. As for motorsports, our presence in Moto3 has a dual interest. The first is that we can demonstrate the quality of our products. The second is that we can set up operations with our customers and create a closer relationship than is possible during working hours alone.
