Seventh on the starting grid, Bradl had a good start and completed the first laps with Crutchlow. The two men raced neck to neck until the finish line, and it was the LCR rider who finally had the upper hand over his opponent to finish fifth. In Moto2, Redding suffered on a circuit he has never liked. Unable to keep pace with the leaders, the Marc VDS rider fought it out with Lüthi, Aegerter and Zarco to take sixth place. Shaken repeatedly by Pasini, Kallio finished ninth. In Moto3, Oliveira and Vazquez respectively crossed the finish line of the San Marino Grand Prix in seventh and twelfth positions, scoring new points for the Mahindra team.

The Championship
Finishing ahead of Bautista, Bradl has consolidated his sixth place in the overall classification. The German rider now has a twelve point lead over the Spaniard. Despite Espargaro’s win, Redding still leads the Moto2 championship, twenty-three points ahead of his rival in the title race. Kallio has stayed in fourth position. In Moto3, Oliveira has consolidated his sixth place and is only sixteen points away from the fifth, held by the German rider Folger, who suffered a fall at Misano. Vazquez is now level on points for tenth place with the Czech rider Kornfeil.

The Background
After three poor weekends at Indianapolis, Brno and Silverstone, Stefan Bradl seemed to be back on the winning path at the San Marino Grand Prix. “During the last three rounds, we were less successful in the races than in the during the practice test sessions,” said Christophe Bourguignon, the technical director of the LCR Honda team. “Stefan fell several times after his podium at Laguna Seca, and he lost a little confidence. He was less aggressive on the bike and kept a safety margin during the races that cost us in terms of performance. At this level of competition, you can’t play safe if you want to be on the leading edge.” At Misano, therefore, the technicians of the Lucio Cecchinello team were hard at work helping Stefan regain confidence in the front end of his machine. “We’ve found new settings that have helped him feel safer, even if it means losing a little speed,” said Bourguignon. “Once again, it’s all a question of compromise.” In the fight from beginning to end with Cal Crutchlow, the German rider succeeded in gaining the upper hand over his opponent in the last lap. “All we hope now that this result will allow him to get back to his best,” said the Belgian engineer.
