Winner on his home turf at Silverstone, Scott Redding regaled the British public and increased his lead in the Moto2 Championship.

MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 Great-Britain

UKThe Races
Scott Redding does not bend under the pressure. Second on the starting grid of the Silverstone circuit, the Marc VDS rider had the race fully under control and won with an expert hand ahead of Nakagami and Lüthi. A British rider had not won in front of his own public in the intermediate category in 37 years. His Finnish teammate was unable to repeat his feat in Brno on a circuit that has never really been good to him. Seventh during the practice test sessions, Kallio nonetheless took the chequered flag in sixth position. In MotoGP Bradl took a new sixth place after starting from the second row of the grid. In Moto3 Oliveira offered the Mahindra team a very good result by overtaking Folger, Miller and Masbou to steal fifth place. Vazquez crossed the finish line in tenth position.

The Championship
By winning his third victory of the season and benefitting from the eighth place taken by Pol Espargaro, Scott Redding now has a thirty-eight point lead in the overall classification over the Spaniard. Kallio consolidated his fourth position, as did Bradl by taking sixth place in the MotoGP class. In Moto3, Oliveira and Vazquez respectively hold sixth and tenth positions.

The Background
Whether or not he is crowned Moto2 World Champion at the end of the season, Scott Redding will ride next year in MotoGP with a Honda production racer. A just reward for the young British rider whose career has never been a bed of roses . “At the end of the 2009 season, he had no bike to ride,” recalls Michael Bartholemy, manager of the Marc VDS Racing Team. But Bartholemy was still convinced that the kid from Quedgeley had the potential to go far. “His talent was obvious,” said the Belgian manager. “But nothing had been done to take advantage of it.” In four seasons in the Moto2 championship riding for Marc VDS, Redding has made his comeback. “We’ve given him the framework for him to make progress,” details the Belgian manager. “We hired a fitness trainer and nutritionist, and former rider Stefan Prein to keep track of him from the pits.” The investment has paid off: the young British rider now occupies first place in the Moto2 World Championship.
