By staying ahead of Espargaro as they crossed the finish line of the Indianapolis Grand Prix, Scott Redding strengthened his lead in the Moto2 championship.

indianaThe Races
Although he didn’t manage to overtake Rabat or Nakagami at the end of the race, Redding still beat Espargaro to make it to the third step of the Moto2 podium. The day before, the Marc VDS rider won his second pole position of the season. Kallio also had a great finish to the race, moving up from thirteenth to seventh place in only two laps. MotoGP Bradl slowed down a little after his three crashes during the test sessions undermined his confidence. Starting eighth on the grid, the LCR rider took the chequered flag in seventh place. In Moto3, Vazquez abandoned due to mechanical problems while Oliveira slid his Mahindra into eighth place. Livio Loi signed the best performance of his career, finishing fourteenth after qualifying for eleventh position.

The Championship
As the MotoGP championship moves into the second half of the season, Bradl holds a solid sixth place overall. In Moto2, Redding remains a strong leader and is now twenty-six points ahead of the pack. Kallio lies in fifth position, hot on the wheels of the top three. In Moto3, Oliveira and Marquez are respectively sixth and twelfth in the standings, while Loi has moved up to twenty-third position.

The Background
Finishing eighth in last year’s MotoGP championship for his first season in the premier-class category, Stefan Bradl had no reason to feel ashamed about his debut with the LCR Honda team, even if he never made the podium that Lucio Cecchinello hoped for. This year, the first part of the championship was complicated for the German rider before he won at Laguna Seca, taking his first pole position and his first podium. A performance that finally convinced Honda to extend his contract for the 2014 season. “It’s good news for the team,” said Christophe Bourguignon, the technical director of LCR. “We started working together a year and a half ago, and I think it would have been a shame not to pursue the project. Of course, after the promising 2012 season, the results at the start of this year’s season were not up to our expectations in pure performance. In technical terms, we could see the marked progress Stefan was making, both in riding and tuning the bike, but we failed to convert into podiums or wins. At Assen and Sachsenring, he was at the top of the table during the test sessions but failed to convert during the races. The Grand Prix of the United States at Laguna Seca was a turning point. Stefan is making progress weekend after weekend, and I’m sure he can do even better. His sense of rigor and discipline is a great asset. We still have a long road ahead of us, but by working together and keeping the same technical team for another year we should be able to further improve our working relationship, and I hope, our results.”
