Talisman Loeb, clinches Rally Argentina

WRCargen2The facts
“One person is missing, and your world is a desert”, French poet Lamartine once wrote. When its nine-time World champion is not around, Citroën looks like an average team. But even as part-timers, Loeb and Elena bring the success back to French brand and puzzle opposition. It was the case for Championship leader Sébastien Ogier, who was on control after the first stage only to make a mistake in the second and let Loeb win for almost a minute.

The figure
9. Citroen took the last nine rallies run in Argentina in WRC. Carlos Sainz’s success in 2004 is to be added to the eight Loeb’s wins. It’s even ten for Groupe PSA as Marcus Grönholm won in 2003 at the wheel of the Peugeot 206 WRC.

The sentence
“To beat a Sébastien Loeb you need an absolutely trouble-free rally”. Ogier chose not to keep fighting Loeb on the last stage but securing the 20 points of the second place to comfort his Championship lead. His new challenger is now Loeb.

The anecdote
Rally Argentina might not be the final appearance of Loeb in a gravel event this year. Frenchman is set to take part to his fourth and last event, Rallye de France-Alsace, held on tarmac. He said however on Saturday: “I have a plan to do a rally in France with the Super 1600 car with my wife, on gravel”.
