WRCgree2The facts
After winning the last two editions, Citroen fell in the so-called ‘Rally of Gods’ at VW’s benefit, but the damages were not made by Sébastien Ogier, restrained to Rally 2 from the first special stage, on Friday night, on a fuel related problem. Sitting third after the first day, Latvala made the most of suprise leader Evgeny Novikov’s issues to build a strong lead on Saturday and win o Sunday, 1 minute and 50 seconds ahead of Sordo and 2 min 15 to third-placed Thierry Neuville on a Ford. Mikko Hirvonen ran another DS3 WRC to 8th, after dropping 6 minutes on Friday due to steering problems.

The figure
1. The DR3 emerged as winner from only one of the 14 special stages presented in the event held around Loutraki, one hour drive west of Athens. It is the lowest tally for the Chevrons this season.

The sentence
“I’ve been on a poor run of results, finishing out of the points in three of the last four rounds. So, second place is a morale-boosting result and means that we score points that we really needed. I hope that this result will enable me to feel more confident and reach new heights, starting with Rally Sardegna.” Spaniard Sordo, who opted for taking no risk on Sunday was content with his second podium this season, after his tihird place at Monte-Carlo.

The anecdote
Latvala, a winner of his 8th World rally, was handed his debuts on a WRC car ten years ago at Acropolis Rally. “It’s 10 years ago since I drove my first rally in a World Rally Car and it has taken me all that time to win here.”
